Mercedes Schlapp's role in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't easy. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp as the strategic communication adviser at White House. Schlapp However, she has maintained her focus on her job. Mercedes Schlapp isn't in a ideal position to be a White House strategist communications advisor. She must contend with a president that acts as his own communications director as well as numerous legal fights which could disrupt the administration's messaging strategy and Cabinet secretaries embroiled in controversies of their own. Yet, through all of it Schlapp has stayed determined to focus on her task that she has been assigned, and is working closely with the White House's political and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as as the broader communications operation to coordinate policy rollouts. She has focused on topics like security at schools, opioids, infrastructure as well as trade. In her role, Schlapp has not been in touch with a lot of journalists. In March, she garnered some media attention when her name came up as a possible contender to succeed Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. The fight has been fierce. Schlapp's allies began fighting with Tony Sayegh over the media. After the Washington Examiner published a negative story about Sayegh, Schlapp stated that she called him to have a open heart.
